01. THE EVIL ONES [MP3]
(10:13 / 12.3 MG)

Commissioned by members of Lower Left for a performance titled "Mars," THE EVIL ONES presents a skewed look at George W. Bush's obssession with terrorism. The piece uses samples off news broadcasts to create a narrative about a divided United States, which questions whether in fact, "the best defense is a good offense."

INSTRUMENTS : Short wave radio, news broadcasts, Airsynth, cat-litter tubs, digital processing.

"This country is...taking an assessment right now...of what's important. The Evil Ones thought, that we were weak...eh, they didn't understand us. As I said they're probably watching too much daytime TV."

"Many nations are acting forcefully but some governments will be timid in the face of terror, and make no mistake about it: if they do not act, America will."

"Now to many of us war is a crime so the idea of 'war crimes' seems a bit redundant, what's...the theory behind the phrase 'war crime'?"

"Do you think that congress people are very afraid to take action even though they know that we're heading for a police state?"
